Something Blue…

This version of our “Couturier’s Cake” illustrates how you can really make our designs your own. While we love to do fully custom cakes as well, cakes from our pre-designed line allow our brides to get high style design at a more affordable price. This cake perfectly depicts how unique each cake truly ends up being!

The gorgeous shades of blue Mokuba ribbon paired with vintage style pearl and crystal buttons made this Bride’s “Something Blue” a focal point rather than a quick afterthought. We also created custom monogrammed sugar cookies with ribbon that matched the cake so that all of the evening’s sweet treats would not only be delicious, but also stylish :)

The Vintage Carousel Cake

This cake was so fun to do! The client pretty much gave us free reign to do what we wanted for the extravagant brunch she was holding for a baby naming.

Although the baby was a girl the colours were purple and yellow, some of the father’s favourites. Given that he is a well know fashion designer, and grandma is a fantastic artist in her own right, we really wanted to keep their attention to artistic detail in mind.

What could be more different and fun for a baby naming than a vintage carousel? It can’t help but conjure feelings of early summers and the whimsy of childhood. For us, it was also about the joy of creating something pretty and detailed that would be a part of the baby album forever. At the very least it beats the Betty Crocker concoction featured in my baby pictures (sorry mom, but the good news is you make a great roast beef)!

We also made coordinated lemon sugar cookies, purple and white macarons and homemade biscotti to go with the incredible savory spread put on by Toben food by design (shout out, their incredible if you need a caterer).

I hope everyone enjoys the pics!

We’re Back!

It feels like a million years since we last wrote on the blog. We have had an insanely busy wedding season, but Sarah and I have had so much fun as well!

Producing an item that will be an integral part of one of the most important dates in a couples life together is exciting rather than daunting. Every weekend I wake up and check the weather. Will it be rain or shine for this weeks couples? On delivery I think about how we created a cake to coordinate with their personal style and their wedding decor, but it is not until I can see the cake in the context of the couples day that I really understand what a privilege it is to be privy to such an important event. (Also, I’m a girly girl, so I never get sick of seeing all that beauty in one place! )

Many friends not in the industry often ask about the dreaded “Bridezilla”.  In reality, I am convinced that “Bridezilla” must be a mythological creature akin to the Sasquatch and Loch Ness monster because this year we have been blessed with wonderful, caring and appreciative clients. We are looking forward to sharing some of the work we have been doing for them over the past few months!

It’s good to be back!

The Bunnies found their Cake!

Unfortunately the bunnies were lost a little longer than I intended! The delay in getting this post up can be attributed to two things, prepping for Easter orders and (I have to confess), basking in the gorgeous sun after said Easter orders. Oh well, better late than never, Enjoy!

Little Lost Bunnies

Twas several days before Easter and all through the kitchen,

Mounds of sugar were transformed into bunnies as we pitched in,

With pink ears and noses, as sweet as can be,

I know it sounds crazy but they seemed real to me…

In the middle of the night one bunny awoke with a start,

And cried to the others “where is the cake to turn us to art?”

“Its too soon for Easter, we can’t last that long,

I fear that somethings gone terribly wrong!”

But one wise little bunny knew what was in store,

And said, “We’re not for Easter, but for a girl turning four.”

They all hopped for joy and shouted hooray,

and awaited the party at the HOLT RENFREW Cafe!
