Why We’re Obsessed with Traditional Sticky Toffee Pudding This Holiday Season

November 30, 2024

If there’s one dessert that screams comfort and indulgence during the holidays, it’s Sticky Toffee Pudding. Warm and rich, it’s the kind of dessert that feels like a big, festive hug. At Bobbette & Belle, We have 14 years worth of customers who order this holiday dessert every single year. The year we opened we made the mistake of taking it off the menu after Christmas. We quickly learned our lesson and created a single serving individual size that’s available throughout the year. If you haven’t tried it, give it a try the next time you’re in our Leslieville or Lawrence Park locations. Just make sure to pour the toffee sauce over the top and heat it up

The pudding itself is a moist spice cake made with stewed dates. It can sometimes be very dense and heavy but ours is on the lighter side. This is one of the features that keeps people coming back to order it year after year. It has all the richness, but doesn’t feel heavy after a big feast. Everyone knows this recipe is an English Classic but what you may not know is that it was derived from an Eastern Canadian recipe. I say it’s high time we claim it as our own!

Of course sticky toffee pudding wouldn’t be complete without its signature sauce—and we take ours very seriously. Made with butter, cream, and just the right amount of dark brown sugar, the toffee sauce is rich and silky, with a depth of flavour that defines the dessert. To elevate it, we fold in just enough bourbon to bring warmth and complexity without tasting like alcohol. The result is a sauce that clings to the pudding in all the best ways; pooling on the plate and tempting you to scoop up every last drop.

At my house on Christmas, we think the best part is that any leftovers keep very well so we can still enjoy it with our leftover turkey sandwiches the next week. Perfection!

Warm wishes,
Allyson & the Bobbette & Belle Team
